This year, Rowing Australia has implemented a performance-focussed approach to coach appointments in order to provide greater clarity and improve performance ahead of the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
In line with this approach, Rowing Australia today announced the appointment of the 2016 Australian Rowing Team coaches for 2016 World Rowing Cups 2 and 3 in Europe. The four named coaches will be nominated for selection, in due course, to the Australian Olympic Committee as the coaches for the seven crews that qualified for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games through the 2015 World Rowing Championships.
The Rowing Australia Board approved the appointment of Lyall McCarthy, Rhett Ayliffe, John Driessen and Tom Westgarth. The allocation of crews to the named coaches will be confirmed on the finalisation of crew selections.
The seven crews are:
- Women’s Single Scull
- Women’s Double Scull
- Women’s Quadruple Scull
- Men’s Coxless Pair
- Men’s Coxless Four
- Men’s Quadruple Scull
- Men’s Double Scull
Appointment of coaches for the 2016 Paralympic Games, non-Olympic and non-qualified boats will be announced at a later date after completion the National Team Selection Trials in February 2016.
