#Train4Tokyo Update

The #Train4Tokyo Camps are an initiative to recruit new athletes to para-rowing and provide a positive introduction to the sport. The first #Train4Tokyo Camp was held in Canberra from 9 to 13 January 2017.

The interest in the camp was encouraging with 23 people registering to attend. Participants included current athletes, athletes from other sports and people who have never rowed before.

The participants were selected with a priority to bring new people into the sport. Using some basic information such as age, height, arm span and impairment type, seven people were invited to attend. Participants came from NSW, SA, VIC and WA. One coach and two coxswains were also invited.

The camp program was designed to provide athletes with positive on water experiences and education around nutrition, psychology and recovery.

The next #Train4Tokyo camp will be held from Monday 6 to Friday 10 February 2017, with five new participants being invited so far.
