Rowing Australia Statement on the SIRR 2020 and AMRC 2020 and COVID-19

Rowing Australia (RA) advises that at present the 2020 Aon Sydney International Rowing Regatta to be held at the Sydney International Regatta Centre from the 23 – 29 March 2020 will be going ahead as planned. The 2020 Australian Masters Rowing Championships scheduled for 29 April to 2 May 2020, at Lake Barrington in Tasmania, is also scheduled to still take place.

RA considers the safety and welfare of its participants, volunteers, staff and supporters as paramount and as such will be monitoring the advice provided by State and Federal agencies and will, if necessary, take appropriate action to minimise risk to all involved with the regatta – be it competing, working or supporting.

The current advice from the NSW Department of Health and the Federal Government in relation to events and mass gatherings is that “at this stage, the risk of community spread of COVID-19 in NSW is low, therefore NSW Health does not propose altering arrangements for public events.” (source: https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/Infectious/alerts/Pages/coronavirus-faqs.aspx#1-9-2)

RA acknowledges that this advice can change as the situation evolves, and as such will continue to monitor, and act accordingly, in response to statements and policies enacted by both Federal and State Health authorities. Should there be any change to this advice RA will communicate this information through its social/web channels and via its State/Territory Associations.
