Rowing Australia (RA) is disappointed to advise of the postponement of the 2021 Hancock Prospecting Rower of the Year Awards.
The awards night was due to be held in Canberra on Friday 19 November 2021, but due to prevailing uncertainty in relation to closed borders and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, RA is now considering alternative dates, with a view to hosting the awards early in 2022.
Ian Robson, Rowing Australia CEO spoke about the event: “The Hancock Prospecting Rower of the Year Awards is an annual celebration of our sport and a milestone event of the Rowing Australia calendar. We want everyone from our rowing community right across Australia to have the chance to attend, but with uncertainty surrounding the ongoing border closures, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the event at this time,”
“This iteration of the awards will be particularly significant, as it will be the first time our community has formally come together since the event was last staged in 2019. It is also a chance for us to reflect on the historic achievements of our athletes at the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games,” Robson added.
The Hancock Prospecting Rower of the Year Awards also recognises the outstanding contributions from volunteers and the exceptional achievements of coaches and athletes throughout each year. They are the pinnacle awards within the Australian rowing community and are awarded across a variety of categories.
RA will provide an update as soon as we can on the revised date and location.
