Rowing Australia (RA) wishes to announce the appointment of Ms Sally Leake as an Appointed Director to the RA Board following the resignation of Deputy Chair Ms Flavia Gobbo at the end of the maximum term as a Director.
Ms Leake has assumed the role with immediate effect and attended the most recent meeting of the Board, held on Wednesday 13 April 2022.
Ms Leake is an experienced Company Director and Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) with experience spanning government, private and not-for-profit boards in the health, education and community services sectors. She also boasts 20 years of executive leadership experience including senior corporate and strategic management positions at the AICD and in emergency services, higher education and the private sector.
In addition to welcoming Ms Leake to the organisation, RA President Rob Scott has offered his sincere thanks to Ms Gobbo for almost 10 years of service to the sport and organisation as both Director, Deputy Chair and as Chair of RA’s High-Performance Commission.
“Rowing Australia’s successes would not be possible without the professionalism and dedication of its Directors, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank Flavia for many years of service to the sport of rowing and to our organisation.
“Flavia joined the Board of Rowing Australia in December 2012 and was appointed the Deputy Chair in October 2014. During this time, we have benefited from her significant executive and board experience in areas of strategy, finance, high performance, organisational culture and legal matters.
“As Chair of Rowing Australia’s High-Performance Commission, Flavia led significant change resulting in one of the most successful periods in the history of Australian rowing. We are indebted to Flavia for her leadership and governance during the period of establishing the Men’s and Women’s National Training Centres which will no doubt lead to continued success for our sport into the future.
“As we farewell Flavia, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Sally as an Appointed Director of RA. With vast leadership and governance experience, Sally is an excellent new addition to the Rowing Australia Board. I have every confidence she will serve both the Board and the sport of rowing with distinction,” Mr Scott concluded.
Ms Gobbo will continue as the Chair of RA’s High-Performance Commission until after the Director Elections at the RA Annual General Meeting in May.
