Rowing Australia (RA) today confirmed that due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the various restrictions being put in place around interstate travel, the 2021 Interstate Schools Pathway Eights Regatta will be cancelled.
The event was due to be conducted between 7 and 9 July at West Lakes, Adelaide. The ongoing uncertainty and risks associated with travel, particularly considering the age of the target athletes, means we are unable to proceed with the activity.
Deputy Performance Director, Jaime Fernandez said, “We are saddened and disappointed that we’re unable to run the Interstate Schools Pathway Eights event next month in Adelaide. With the new border restrictions and the ever-evolving situation around COVID-19 we felt it prudent to make a decision now so crews, coaches and support staff weren’t facing more last-minute changes.
“We would certainly encourage these aspiring athletes to participate in the 2021 Indoor Interstate Regatta which is currently being run virtually in order for some friendly interstate rivalry. We acknowledge how challenging the current environment is for everyone and appreciate the support and work from all our Pathway network partners across the country – they have done an amazing job in keeping our young athletes interested and engaged in the sport. We hope everyone remains safe and healthy during this most recent outbreak.”
