Amy James represented Australia at the World University Games in 2014 and raced in the 2015 Australian National Championships in both the U23 Lightweight and Heavyweight Women's Single Scull. In 2015, she raced for Australia in the U23 Lightweight Women's Double Scull with Holly Lawrence, finishing seventh overall. In 2016, she rowed in the World University Rowing Championships in the Lightweight Women's Single and won gold. In 2017, she was named in the Women's Quadruple Scull for World Rowing Cup 2 and 3 alongside Alice Arch, Georgia Miansarow and Georgia Nesbitt. She went on to win gold at World Rowing Cup 3 and then silver at the 2017 World Rowing Championships in the boat class. In 2018, James was named again in the Lightweight Women's Quadruple Scull for World Rowing Cups 2 and 3. Post the World Rowing Cups, James was named in the Lightweight Women's Double Scull alongside Sarah Pound. James is currently studying Exercise and Movement Science.
