The nation’s best Masters rowers will be bound for Tasmania in 2024 with confirmation the Lake Barrington International Rowing Course will play host to the Australian Masters Rowing Championships (AMRC).
It adds another blue-ribbon event to the annals of Lake Barrington, which last hosted the AMRC in 2018, held the Australian Rowing Championships in in 2021 and famously staged the World Championships in 1990.
Now rowers aged 27-plus will return to the water from Wednesday May 8 to Saturday May 11 to not only compete in the spirit of Masters rowing but foster and build the community that underpins the sport.
“We know many of our Masters rowers are still fierce competitors but this event has so much value beyond the racing. It is a celebration of those who have given – and continue to give – so much to the sport,” Rowing Australia chief executive Ian Robson said.
“We have seen 1000-plus rowers at the AMRC in recent years and I have no doubt a trip to Tasmania and the iconic Lake Barrington venue will be a major drawcard.”
Rob Prescott, the chief executive of Rowing Tasmania, said the state was looking forward to welcoming back the nation’s Masters rowers and building on the success of 2018.
“The state of Tasmania will roll out the red carpet to the home of rowing when Lake Barrington hosts the ARMC in May of 2024. We are building on the success on the last Masters and this will be bigger and better,” Mr Prescott said.
“It will be held slightly earlier in the year so visitors can enjoy some of the beautiful Tasmanian weather. And like other Masters events around Australia, the community knows how to enjoy themselves on and off the water.
“We will be sure to show them the best of the north-west of the state and what we have to offer with our world-class food, wine and scenery. And we thank Events Tasmania for their support in helping to bring the 2024 AMRC back to our shores.”
