Rowing Australia is proud to have an incredible commentary team at Lake Barrington for #ARC26. Among the voices you will hear both at the lake and via the livestream is our Volunteer of the Day, Stuart John.

Stuart continuously devotes many hours a day to the sport bringing his extensive knowledge and passion for rowing to everything he does, building excitement among the boat park.

With the opening ceremony kicking off racing for #ARC26, Stuart stepped up to MC and interview representative athletes from each state, gaining their insights ahead of the interstate regatta taking place on Sunday.

Despite an unexpected power outage that left microphones unusable, Stuart happily adapted utilising his voice and a megaphone for projection. While circumstances were not ideal Stuart did an incredible job persisting, ensuring the event continued as seamlessly as possible.

As the week continues, Stuart is particularly looking forward to watching new talent among the para athletes come down the course. As a para-rower himself, Stuart describes how welcoming and inclusive the para rowing community is.

“It is a really welcoming space, the people are absolutely amazing and to come to national events, you make new friends within the para community and I just absolutely love it.”

Being from ACT, Stuart is also very excited and proud to see his state competing in both the King and Queen cup, as well as the youth men’s eight. This will not only be the first time since 2013 where ACT has had an entry in both the King and Queens cup, but also marks 30 years since ACT first competed at an interstate regatta.

With his extensive knowledge of all the state crews, Stuart believes that despite the consistent strength of Victoria and New South Wales, this could be the year things are shaken up.

“Whether it’s Queensland with the Kings Cup, or Western Australia with the Queens cup … everything is building up to something special on Sunday. I cannot wait.”

Stuart is invaluable to the rowing community, and we thank him for volunteering his time, knowledge and skills contributing to the success of #ARC26.
