RIGGERS Rowing Programs
Rowing Australia is pleased to partner with Sport Australia (SA) to deliver Sporting Schools, a $400 million Australian Government initiative to get more children playing more sport. Thanks to the Federal Government’s 2022 Budget, Sporting Schools has been extended until the end of 2024. Primary and Secondary schools are eligible to apply for funding to deliver sport before, during or after school.
LET’S GET ROWING
Rowing is a sport that works out your entire body, promotes team-building skills, leadership and cooperation. Rowing Australia’s Riggers programs provide the opportunity for students to experience the fun of rowing in a safe and healthy environment. Students from 7-13 years of age are able to get a taste of rowing through two programs; the Riggers Indoor Rowing Program and the Riggers Experience Rowing Program (on water).
RIGGERS INDOOR ROWING
The Riggers Indoor Rowing Program is an innovative youth engagement program for the sport of rowing. Riggers programs provide 4 x 45 minute sessions, available to primary school students in Years 3 to 6 and secondary students in Year 7 and 8. The program introduces children to the sport of rowing using quality Indoor Rowing machines with fun activity cards to follow and progress through.
Riggers is about learning how to row by having fun and playing games, while keeping participants engaged and safe. Each session will progress into the next – this flexibility allows the program to be adapted to the needs, abilities and progress of the group. The program can be delivered by existing qualified coaches, or teachers now have the opportunity of completing Rowing Australia’s online accreditation course, to allow them to deliver a Riggers Indoor Rowing Program themselves.

RIGGERS EXPERIENCE ROWING (on water)
The Riggers Experience Rowing is an ‘on water’ rowing program of 3 x 1 hour sessions and is only available to secondary school students. It engages students at a local rowing club. The program introduces young people to the sport of rowing on water to learn new skills, whilst having fun and staying safe. Delivered by qualified coaches, students don’t need to have any prior rowing experience. All equipment, including the boat and oars, is provided for their use while in the program.
