Being at the helm of Rowing Australia has been one of the greatest privileges of my career working in sport. As I sign off from the desk of the Chief Executive today, I leave with a lifetime of unforgettable experiences, memories and cherished friends and colleagues.
What is true of life is true of sport; it is all about the people. And in our incoming Chief Executive Officer Sarah Cook OLY, Rowing Australia has an excellent, capable and dedicated leader. I am delighted for Sarah and even more so for the wider rowing community as she steers it towards the next Olympic and Paralympic Games and beyond.
Under the continued guidance of our President Rob Scott, Sarah is the ideal choice as we enter a new era for rowing. We have a strong tradition of success and the opportunities that lie ahead over the next decade are just as rich. I encourage all of our clubs, states, coaches, administrators and athletes to walk with her on that journey.
It has been an honour to be part of the Olympic family through the lens of rowing. One of the final functions I attended in my role was to celebrate the 12 month countdown to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. It was a timely reminder of the dedication, drive, passion and commitment of our athletes, their support staff, friends and families.
I have been blessed to hear and share their stories. I will always feel a deep connection to the sport and will be cheering from the riverbank or in front of the television as our athletes represent their country. The Green and Gold could scarcely wish for better ambassadors than our Olympic and Paralympic rowers.
My thanks go to Rob and the Rowing Australia Board for giving me the honour of being the CEO and all of my colleagues at Rowing Australia, who drive our sport onwards with their ceaseless dedication. Thank you to our key stakeholders and partners; the Australian Sports Commission, our Patron Mrs Gina Rinehart AO and Hancock Prospecting, and our great friends at the Australian Olympic Committee, Paralympics Australia and the Commonwealth Games Association.
I know you will all keep striving towards excellence and rowing towards greatness.
