With 4 weeks to go until the best Masters rowers in the country hit the water in Perth for the 2026 Australian Masters Rowing Championships (AMRC), the interest from across Australia is growing.
As previously communicated, Rowing Australia and Rowing WA (event host) recognise the extra strain that the current fuel crisis has put on clubs, crews and individuals to make the decision to attend the 2026 AMRC.
Rowing WA has been reaching out to clubs across the country to gain insights into interest for the event and has been pleasantly surprised with the response. West Australians are sued to the long trip across the country for regattas, so acknowledge the effort this requires.
Concerns raised from clubs around the country have been related to fuel cost, fuel availability, and whether travelling during a fuel crisis is the right thing to do. Rowing WA, have provided a detailed overview related to these questions here. This should provide some comfort to those still considering to bring a trailer or not.
To ease the burden of the additional costs to compete at the 2026 AMRC, predominantly associated with getting trailers across the country, Rowing WA has established a Trailer Subsidy Scheme, providing opportunity for those towing trailers from states outside of WA to apply for a subsidy to offset the additional fuel costs. Subsidies vary depending on what capital city you are travelling from and come with some conditions. These conditions include being a reasonable sized trailer with a reasonable number of boats on board.
The Trailer Subsidy Scheme is capped and applications will be assessed on a first come first served basis. However, based on previous AMRC’s hosted in WA, we believe there is capacity under the scheme for all trailers travelling from interstate to access a subsidy.
The intent of the scheme is to support more trailers to come to WA, to make the 2026 AMRC the best event possible.
Further details on the Rowing WA Trailer Subsidy Scheme and how to apply are available here.
Applications close at 5pm AWST Monday 4 May 2026. Successful applicants will be advised via email by COB 5pm AWST Tuesday 5 May.
Rowing Australia and Rowing WA look to seeing you all in WA soon for what is shaping up to be a great event at the world-class Champion Lakes Regatta Centre.
