U21 ARTeam still ahead at the close of Day 2

The U21 ARTeam are still ahead at the close of Day 2 of the Trans Tasman Regatta on Lake Karapiro. Australia sit on 270 points while New Zealand are not far behind on 252.

The crews were greeted by cold yet calm conditions for the heats and then finals of the medium sized boats. The Men’s Four claimed gold and continued their unbeaten run, coached by Alex Field. The race of the day was the final of Men’s Quad scull taken out by New Zealand with finish margin of 0.14 seconds, some very close racing.

All crews have put in incredible performances gaining valuable international racing experience.

A reminder that points are calculated as follows:

Points for racing will be awarded in the finals as follows:

  1. 1st – 6 points, 2nd – 4 points, 3rd – 2 points and 4th – 1 point for –W1x, M1x, W2- and M2-.
  2. 1st – 6 points and 2nd – 4 points for LW2x, LM2x, W4-, M4-, W4x, M4x, W8+ and M8+.
  3. 1st – 2 points and 2nd – 1 point for LW1x, LM1x and MixL2x.Medals will be awarded to the first-placed boat in each category.
