Update on CampaignNumberOne

Earlier this year Rowing Australia launched CampaignNumberOne, its new High Performance Plan for 2020 and beyond, focused on delivering its vision of being the number one rowing nation in the world. The following update is provided to ensure that athletes, coaches and key stakeholders are informed of the current progress of the plan.

Selection of Women’s National Training Centre
Rowing Australia is currently in the process of finalising its preferred location for the Women’s National Training Centre. We intend to formally announce the location of the Women’s National Training Centre before the end of August, after the Olympic Games. Our preference is to inform key stakeholders, athletes and coaches of the NTC ahead of the public announcement.

The NTCs are being established to enable a sharper focus on podium-potential athletes, to provide competitive tension in the daily training environment, and to support better informed and more efficient crew selections. Athletes will be able to plan their education and employment around a known long-term training base and will have access to world-leading coaches and sport science and medicine.

Selection to National Training Centres
Rowing Australia intends to publish the criteria for invitation to the National Training Centres, along with financial assistance packages for invited athletes, by September 2016.

We are hopeful that selection of athletes into each National Training Centre will be completed by the end of 2016, and that both Centres will be operational in early 2017.

Paralympic Program
Rowing Australia is currently working through opportunities to better leverage the resources available via the new model, to ultimately grow the number of para rowers and the support provided to them for the next quadrennial.

Appointment of Staff
National Performance Director
Rowing Australia is currently finalising the process to appoint its National Performance Director. An announcement on the appointment will be dependent upon the circumstances of the preferred candidate.

NTC Coaches
The finalisation of coaches for the two National Training Centres will take place once the Performance Director and NTC Location has been finalised and RA’s intention is to announce these appointments in September 2016.

Performance Pathways
RA is currently working with each State to review and finalise the bespoke State based talent pathway programs. It is expected this process will be completed in October, with Pathway programs to be rolled out in January 2017.

Finally, with just two weeks to go before the 2016 Rio Olympic Games we wish all of our athletes all the very best for competition. Go the green and gold!
