By Chris McCarthy with the Australian Rowing Team at the Henley Royal Regatta
Australian Rowing Team crews are set to contest three finals on the seventh and final day of the prestigious 2025 Henley Royal Regatta.
The Men’s Quadruple Sculls, Men’s Double Sculls, and Men’s Eight will all aim to return their respective trophies to Australian hands, with all having been won by green and gold crews in the past.
Sydney Rowing Club will join them between the booms of the iconic British course as their Four challenge for the Wyfold Challenge Cup in the first final for the Abbotsford club since 2019.
The Men’s Eight, having triumphed over Great Britain on Saturday, face the Netherlands at 3:00pm BST / 12:00am AEST.
The Dutch defeated Cambridge University’s winning combination from April’s Boat Race in their semi-final, completing the course two seconds slow than Australia, leaving the door open to Australia’s first win in the Grand Challenge Cup since 2018.
Coxswain Nicholas Dunlop was unphased by the prospect of another tough race.
“We’ll aim for a very similar approach," Dunlop said.
"If we focus on executing everything we did on Saturday just a little bit better, I think we’ll be in a good position.”
The Men’s Quadruple Sculls are set to face World Cup Varese Gold Medallists Great Britain in the final of the Queen Mother Challenge Cup.
The Australians completed the first half of the course in near-identical times to the locals, setting the stage for a thrilling matchup.
Australia last won the event in 2012, and the crew are determined to bring the cup home after a long wait.
Men’s Double Sculls Oscar McGuinness and Mitchell Reinhard will contend an antipodean affair in the Double Sculls Challenge Cup, when they face New Zealand’s Finlay Hamill and Ben Mason.
The Kiwi pairing have a few more races in the legs to overcome, Hamill having reached the finals in the Diamond Challenge Sculls.
The Aussies are up for the challenge, however, Reinhard was optimistic about their chances on the Thames.
“The Kiwis are an extremely handy crew, but we're going to give it a red-hot crack again and see what we can do," Reinhard said.
"It's just racing, and I feel like if we've got them anywhere, it’s here."
