Rowing Australia’s remarkable achievements from the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games have secured four prestigious finalist nominations in this year’s AIS Sport Performance Awards (ASPAs).

Highlighting a historic win, the PR3 Mixed Double Sculls of Nikki Ayers PLY and Jed Altschwager PLY earned nominations for Performance of the Year and Team of the Year after capturing Australia’s first-ever Paralympic rowing gold.

Coach Christine MacLaren has been recognised in the Coach of the Year category for her pivotal role in guiding the Double to victory.

Nikki Ayers is also nominated for the Community Engagement Award, celebrated for her impactful advocacy and dedication to the Australian rowing community.

The ASPAs, Australia’s only national awards recognising achievements in both able-bodied and para high-performance sports, will present 13 awards at a gala event on Wednesday, December 4, in Melbourne.

Finalists are evaluated not only on their sporting accomplishments but also on their embodiment of the "Win Well" ethos, inspiring Australians through excellence and integrity.

Australian Sports Commission CEO Kieren Perkins OAM said the 2024 ASPAs finalists show there is plenty to celebrate in Australian sport.

“2024 in sport has been a resounding success however you measure it,” Mr Perkins said.

“Australian high performance sport has never been so united through our commitment to the Win Well Strategy and the results of the past 12 months show we are on the right track with our home Games in Brisbane now just eight years away.

“While it’s no surprise our Olympians and Paralympians from Paris have dominated the list this year, it is pleasing to also see our winter and Commonwealth Games sports represented as they build-up to pinnacle events 2026.

Congratulations to all our finalists. I look forward to celebrating what has been achieved next month.”

The ASPAs will also honour contributions in volunteerism, with the Volunteer of the Year Award celebrating the role volunteers play in fostering Australian sport.
