Andrew Guerin OAM

Andrew N. Guerin OAM, a distinguished member of the rowing community, has made significant contributions to the sport through various roles as an athlete, coach, administrator, umpire, and historian.

His rowing career began at Scotch College, where he achieved success as a bow seat in the winning 1973 APS Head of the River crew. He continued to excel at the national level, winning multiple National Championships in the Lightweight Eight during the mid-1970s. Andrew's passion for rowing extended beyond competition; he played pivotal roles in rowing administration at club, state, and national levels, and served as an umpire at prestigious events, including the Olympic Games and World Championships.

Andrew's impact on rowing administration is noteworthy. He served as Club Treasurer, Secretary, Captain, and President of Mercantile Rowing Club, where he implemented significant changes that contributed to the club's success.

His leadership extended to Rowing Victoria, where he was President from 2006 to 2013, and to Rowing Australia, where he was a board member and Chairman of the RA Umpires Committee.

His efforts in developing the Victorian Rowing Hall of Fame and his contributions to rowing history, including editing the History of Australian Rowing website, have been widely recognised.

Andrew's dedication to rowing has earned him numerous accolades, including life memberships in Mercantile Rowing Club, Rowing Victoria, and Rowing Australia.

His contributions to the sport were highlighted in his citation for life membership of Rowing Victoria, which praised his leadership, volunteer roles, and efforts in compiling rowing history.

Andrew continues to be an active and influential figure in rowing, serving as Club Secretary, Treasurer of the Victorian Oarsmen and Women's Association of Victoria, and contributing to various rowing publications and documentaries.
