VOLUNTEER HERO STORIES

Catherine Garrington from Rowing ACT has been in rowing for over 20 years. She’s coached, rowed and umpired during that time. While competing she started to umpire to fill in time between races. She was hooked, enjoying the different perspective and view of the regatta through an umpiring lens. This enthusiasm led to Catherine progressing through the umpiring ranks. In 2015 Catherine became an RA umpire and 3 years later earned her FISA license in Tokyo.

This has meant numerous international travel trips to umpire at the World Championships and World Cups.

Catherine is one of Rowing ACT’s long-standing regatta officials. She is known to many local rowers as “the voice of the 1000m start”. In addition to her umpiring credentials, Catherine runs the Rowing ACT Indoor rowing program for Vets and Families as well as ACT Corrections. Catherine has also been a Rowing ACT board member.
