Rowing Australia Scholarships and Bursaries
Rowing Australia is pleased to announce the availability of various bursaries and scholarships aimed at providing support and relief to our dedicated members. These initiatives have been carefully crafted to alleviate the stress and challenges faced by individuals balancing the rigorous demands of rowing, education, and other commitments. We are committed to fostering the growth and development of our athletes, and these opportunities aim to empower them on their journey towards achieving their full potential.
Flavia Gobbo OAM Bursary
With a home Olympic Games in Brisbane 2032, the purpose of the Flavia Gobbo OAM Bursary is to support current and future national team rowers selected to compete in the underage Australian Rowing Teams, in turn helping them to achieve selection to Senior World Championships and Olympic Games teams and contribute to the next generation of Australian Rowers.
Bobby Pearce Foundation
The Bobby Pearce Foundation, formed in 2003, brings together those who have been members of Australian Rowing Teams at World Championships and Olympic Games, and is named after Australia’s first Olympic rowing gold medallist.
The purpose of the Foundation is to raise funds from these previous Australian representative rowers in order to support current and future national team rowers selected to compete in the underage Australian Rowing Teams, in turn helping them to achieve selection to Senior World Championships and Olympic Games teams and contribute to the next generation.
The funds raised are used to assist with the travel, training and competition expenses of members of underage Australian Rowing Teams, and in particular support those athletes that have experienced a particular financial hardship.
The trustees of the Bobby Pearce Foundation are:
- John Coates
- John Boultbee
- Peter Antonie
ER Bromley Trust
The ER Bromley Fund was established in 1990 with a generous donation from the Late Ted Bromley and with the specific intention of defraying in full or in part the expenses of any pair oared crew selected by Rowing Australia to compete at the World Championships.
The Late Ted Bromley was not only a generous benefactor to the sport, but also a distinguished rower. He competed at the senior level for a long period commencing in 1932 in the NSW King’s Cup crew to post WWII at the 1948 Olympic Games. It was however his experience as a pair oared rower that led to him championing coxless pair oared rowing in Australia until his death in 2005. In recognition of this contribution, the Australian men’s pair oared Championship perpetual trophy is named in his honour and is a bronze statue depicting James Tomkins, one of Australia’s most successful pair oared rowers.
The current trustees of the fund are:
- Mr John Coates, AC
- Dr Stephen Hinchy, OAM
- Mr Andrew Guerin
On an annual basis, the trustees allocate funds at their discretion towards the international touring costs of athletes in the under-aged national teams, within the guidelines of the Trust.
Olympic Boat Fleet Trust
In 2003, the Australian Olympic Committee generously gifted to RA the fleet of boats it acquired for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. These boats, combined with RA’s fleet, formed the original assets of the Olympic Boat Fleet Trust.
The purpose of the Trust is to manage and protect RA’s equipment assets to ensure that future national teams compete at the international level with state of the art equipment.
The financial statements of the Trust are published each year as part of the RA annual report.
