Georgina Rowe

A registered nurse, Georgie Rowe took up rowing in May 2017 after having taken part in the Australian Indoor Rowing Championships in 2016 and being crowned a national champion. The Sydney-sider, who was born in Narabeen, is a prolific surfboat rower, along with paddling surf skis and kayaking but now counts 'flat-water' rowing as her favoured sport.

A member of UTS Rowing Club, Rowe's rowing talent was nurtured by Tim McLaren and David Gely, before she was selected to make her Australian Rowing Team debut in 2018, in the Women's Eight for the World Rowing Cups and World Rowing Championships. She went on to win two medals internationally, and then winning the Remenham Challenge Cup at the 2018 Henley Royal Regatta.

In 2020, Rowe broke four world records, the 5km, 21097m (which broke the record by more than 40 seconds), 42195m and distance rowed in four minutes. As of 20 July 2022, three of these records still stand, with her 5km time set as 16:54.2, rowing 1246m in four minutes and covering the 42195m distance in 2:44:27.1.

After two years of no international competition due to Covid-19, Rowe was selected to row in the Women’s Eight for the rescheduled Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.  The crew made the A-final and finished in fifth place, equalling the best result of an Australian Women's Eight at the Olympics.

In 2022, Georgie returned to race in the Women's Eight for World Cup 2 in Poznan, Poland where she won Bronze with crew mates Eleanor Price, Jean Mitchell, Paige Barr, Jacqueline Swick, Ella Bramwell, Giorgia Patten,Emma Fessey and cox Talia Barnet-Hepples.

Georgie continued to race in the eight through the 2022 season, racing at Henley Royal Regatta in the Remenham Challenge Cup (Elite Women's Eights) with Emma Fessey, Eleanor Price, Bronwyn Cox, Annabelle McIntyre OAM, Giorgia Patten, Lucy Stephan OAM, Katrina Werry and Cox Talia Barnet-Hepples. The crew made the final of the Regatta, but lost to the British crew in the match style racing.

For World Cup 3 in Lucerne, Switzerland, Georgie took the Gold medal with crew mates Eleanor Price, Bronwyn Cox, Paige Barr, Jacqueline Swick, Ella Bramwell, Giorgia Patten, Georgina Rowe, Emma Fessey and cox Talia Barnet-Hepples.

Georgie was also involved with the Coles Start2Row program, developed by Rowing Australia and Coles, which is about providing an opportunity for school students to participate in indoor rowing and having their first session taught by a member of the Australian Rowing Team.

In the following year, Georgina won gold again at the 2023 World Rowing Cup II, before securing Australia’s qualification in the women’s eight for Paris 2024 by finishing third at the World Rowing Championships.
