Richard Finlayson was a member of Australian Rowing Teams in 1985 (U23), 1987 and 1988, the NSW Kings Cup VIII from 1986-1988 and has McVilly Pearce Pin number 397. He began his rowing career in Canberra at Canberra Grammar School and was National Champion in the Junior Single Scull in 1983 and U23 Single Scull in 1985. He moved to Mosman Rowing Club in 1985, representing the club in the coxless pair and coxed four, and has been a director of the Club on two different occasions.
 
He is a graduate of the University of Technology Sydney, Wharton Business School’s Advanced Management Program, and has spent his career in the media, originally as a journalist, for some time as the managing director of a communications consultancy and later as the Chief Operating Officer of SBS and Director of Television at the ABC.
 
He is currently the Joint CEO of the film and television production company, Wooden Horse.
