Simon Keenan

VIC | Melbourne University Boat Club

A graduate of Yale University, Simon Keenan won a silver medal in 2014 at the World Rowing U23 Championships in the Men's Eight. His loves to listen to Bruce Springsteen ahead of a race and his favourite place to row is Housatonic River, CT, USA. In 2017, Keenan was named as the reserve for the Australian Men's Eight that will competed at World Rowing Cups 2 and 3, while he raced at the 2017 World Rowing Championships in the Men's Eight. In 2017-18, Keenan joined the Reinhold Batschi Men's National Training Centre in Canberra and was selected into the Men's Eight for the World Rowing Cups and World Rowing Championships.

For the 2022 international season, Keenan was selected in the A.R.T. Men’s sweep squad.  At the 2022 World Cup II held in Poznan, Poland, Keenan was part of the Men’s Eight crew that won a Silver Medal.

During the July 2022 World Cup III regatta held in Lucerne, Switzerland, Keenan rowed in the Men’s Single Scull and finished in 14th position.

At the 2022 World Rowing Championships, September held in Račice, Czech Republic, Keenan was an ART sweep reserve.

The second half of 2023 saw Simon shift his focus from the men's eight to men's pairs for the first time in his international career. He competed in the 2023 World Rowing Cup III event, finishing second in the B-Final.

It was his efforts in the World Rowing Championships alongside his rowing partner Fergus Hamilton that would ultimately earn Australia a spot in the Paris Olympic Games. The duo would win their heat and battle it through the quarter and semi-finals to gain a B-Final berth where the pair finished second. This result earned Australia a qualifying spot in the men's pairs for Paris 2024.

Simon's recent form and previous achievements have earned him a ticket to Paris in the men's pair where he will partner alongside Patrick Holt.
