#ARC25 Volunteer of the Day: Lindy Nesbitt and Marg Small

Having spent more than 30 years each in the scene of rowing, Lindy Nisbett (Endeavour Rowing Club) and Marg Small (Mosman Rowing Club) are no strangers to the scene of rowing. Lifelong friends Lindy and Marg are not only incredible volunteers, but active members of their respective rowing clubs.

These two are our Volunteers of the Day: Lindy Nesbitt and Marg Small

The pair are experienced volunteers on both state and national levels, having volunteered their time for nearly as long as they have been on the water. #ARC25 has seen the duo work in and amongst the action as timekeepers.

Timekeepers play a crucial role in officiating, analysing, and viewing races online. Stationed at each 500m interval, a pair of timekeepers monitor the exact moment each boat's bow ball passes through.

Lindy and Marg believe timekeeping at Lake Barrington International Rowing Course (LBIRC) is a unique and special experience. As each of the timing huts (aside from the finish tower) is stationed on the water, it provides spectacular waterfront row views of the action, where they will be sure to keep a close eye on their clubs!

Being rowers themselves, the Lindy and Marg understand competitions such as #ARC25 can only operate at such a high standard because of volunteers who step up and help out. Lindy expresses how her motivation to volunteer stems from her gratitude for all she has gained from the sport, and this is her way of “giving back”. Marg agrees, stating: “To give back a little to something that’s given us so much is the basis of our volunteering”.

The strong connections, camaraderie and friendship built between volunteers, highlighted by Marg and Lindy, is a testimony to rowing, showing the environment is more than just about the sport.

As a timekeeper, Lindy and Marg also appreciate the ambiance of being so close to the racing, and they use it as a time to reflect on how much they appreciated rowing at a younger age. By volunteering at a regatta like #ARC25, Lindy and Marg hope they are doing their part to enable the same fond memories to be made for younger generations.
