This event is one of my personal favourites on the Australian rowing calendar. While we’ve seen some incredible streaks of dominance at the state level across the years, from Scotch, to Shore, to Riverview more recently, the battle for the national title has regularly produced spectacular upsets. In 2026, this event holds even more significance, as it’s a rare opportunity to claim the Barrington Cup on the spectacular stretch of water after which it is named.
As a disclaimer, this preview is out before the New South Wales AAGPS and Victorian APS Heads of the River are raced. We will endeavour to update this article over the weekend once we’ve had a chance to glean some more information from those two historic regattas.
