#ARC26 Volunteer of the Day: Addi Burns and Zac Mason

Hailing from Adelaide, Addi Burns and Zac Mason are not only volunteers for ARC26 but also athletes.

Now in Year 11 at Unley High School, this will be their fifth season at school rowing and their second year as ARC volunteers.

Their schools rowing manager introduced the volunteer program to the athletes last year at ARC25, and with the pair enjoying the experience, they decided to help again this year.

“We decided to [volunteer] because it is good to give back to Rowing Australia… also the free shirts from 776BC come with the job,” said Mason.

With Addi as the coxswain in the Men’s four and eight, the pair will be competing together across both the Under 19 and the schoolboy divisions.

When they are not competing, you can find them timekeeping, managing the cameras, or boat holding at the start line.

Addi describes how there is a nice balance between volunteering and racing as the Rowing Australia events team ensures there are no clashes in the same session as your race, while also giving plenty of time for rest.

Addi and Zac’s favourite part of volunteering is the opportunity to help with boat holding as they love the experience, meeting new people and getting to hold boats for our Rowsellas.

With volunteering jobs often being a group task, they find themselves often able to work with friends, making the experience even more enjoyable.

Addie and Zac have done an incredible job helping and would encourage anyone else to consider volunteering.

“It is a really fun experience, and we really recommend you doing it,” said Burns.
