The most popular events for spectators at the Australian National Championships are undoubtedly the Open Eights. This year’s Open Women’s eight should be a truly fantastic race for spectators lining the shores of Lake Barrington, with seven fantastic crews set to take the start line on Friday, 27 March. There are no heats required for this event, nor is there a preliminary round; expect fatigue to be a major factor in the speed of these boats, as many athletes are competing in small and medium boat events across this regatta, which tend to race before the eights. Only time will tell how the best sweepers of Australia will hold up to the pressure, but for now, we can take a look at some of the top crews vying for the top step of the podium.
