Volunteer of the Day: Mandy Roe

Mandy Roe has been in the rowing scene since 2013, where her now Rowsella son Patrick Holt began rowing at Brisbane Grammar school. Mandy is a very supportive member of the rowing community not only as a dedicated mother but also in the role of a volunteer for the past 5 national events.

When the Australian Rowing Championships came to Lake Barrington in 2021, Mandy first put her hand up knowing COVID-19 would have restricted the number of people able to volunteer. Having loved her time she has continued to volunteer at every national event since, with no intention of stopping anytime soon.

“It’s lovely volunteering, you meet lots of people in all different stages of their rowing careers, you are helping out and it is a lot of fun.”

ARC26 is a full circle moment for Mandy, as her dedication to the sport has brought her back to where her time volunteering began.

Mandy and her husband Kevin, who she has brought along to volunteer this year describe how helping out while getting to know people from all across Australia at different stages of their career is a particular highlight.

Starting her week on the welcome gate that has been particularly busy at ARC26, Mandy enjoys the social aspect of being able to greet and have a chat with people as they arrive, including her son who she may not get to see again during the day! Today’s job at the medal presentations was just as social, but with a change to a front row view of the finish line where the positivity continued with the successful athletes.

Mandy is a wonderful addition to the volunteer group and she describes the positive environment as a lot of fun and a great way to meet new people, from all over Australia.

Looking to the end of the Australian National Championships, Mandy is particularly excited to watch Queensland compete in the Interstate Regatta tomorrow afternoon.
