Lachlan Doust

NSW | UTS Haberfield Rowing Club

Lachlan “Dousty” Doust is a bow-side sweep rower from Willoughby, New South Wales, who has steadily built a reputation for toughness, consistency, and resilience across both Australian and American rowing pathways. A graduate of Saint Ignatius’ College, Riverview, he was part of the school’s historic First Eight that ended a 43-year drought by winning the 2018 AAGPS Head of the River. Originally balancing rugby alongside rowing, Lachlan eventually pursued rowing full-time, inspired by the team culture and the chance to represent Australia.

He made his international debut at the 2023 World Rowing Under 23 Championships, placing fourth in the Men’s Eight, and progressed into the senior squad in 2025, racing in the Men’s Eight at the World Rowing Cup in Varese and in the Men’s Four in Lucerne. Pulling on the green and gold remains his proudest sporting moment, a reminder of the reward for his persistence and the simple advice that drives him — “keep showing up.”

At the collegiate level, Lachlan rows for Syracuse University, where he has competed in the Varsity Eight across the IRA National Championships, Eastern Sprints, and Head of the Charles. Sitting predominantly in the middle of the boat, he has been part of crews that have claimed major invitational wins and delivered top-five national finishes. Alongside his international racing, he rows domestically with UTS Haberfield Rowing Club.

Coached first by Dan Noonan, Lachlan is known for his powerful rhythm at bow and his determination to improve technically, physically, and aerobically. Away from rowing, he enjoys the outdoors, fishing, time at the beach, and playing sports. His pre-race pump-up song, Walk of Life by Dire Straits, captures both his laid-back personality and competitive edge, while his best technical lesson — “sit tall at the finish” — underpins his rowing style.

Lachlan is currently a reserve for the Men's Sweep squad.
