Oscar Scheel-Gamborg
NSW | Mosman Rowing Club
Sydney’s Oscar Scheel-Gamborg has quickly established himself as one of Australia’s rising stars in both flatwater and coastal rowing. Growing up on the Northern Beaches, Oscar was an all-round athlete, excelling in running, swimming, and rugby, earning state team selections in each, before finding rowing in Year 8 when his first coach, Kirean Kobelkie, introduced him to the sport. Starting out with the NBSC program and rowing out of Mosman Rowing Club, Oscar’s competitive drive and natural athleticism soon translated into national and international success.
Oscar’s breakthrough year came in 2023, when he claimed his first Australian Rowing Championship title in the U19 men’s double scull with Dion Hanson—a moment he describes as his most memorable sporting achievement. That same year, he won the U19 men’s double scull at the Australian Beach Sprint Championships and placed third in the open men’s single scull.
Internationally, Oscar has already made his mark. At the 2023 World Rowing Beach Sprint Championships in Barletta, Italy, he won bronze in the U19 men’s double scull and placed seventh in the men’s single, marking his first major podium on the world stage. He returned in 2024 to reach multiple finals at the World Rowing Beach Sprint Finals, further cementing his status as a podium contender.
Now a full-time apprentice with DK Design Kitchen, Oscar continues to train and race out of Mosman Rowing Club with an eye on his 2025 goals—winning national titles in all entered boat classes and reaching the podium at the World Championships in the men’s quad scull. Known for his love of competition in all disciplines, Oscar lives by the advice to “never take things for granted and always take any and all opportunities given towards you.”
Whether it’s wakeboarding, skiing, or pushing himself on the water, Oscar brings the same intensity: go hard, hit the catch, and always be ready for the next race.
Oscar is currently a member of the Australian Coastal Mixed Quad Sculls.
