Craig James OAM

Craig James OAM is a dedicated and long-serving volunteer administrator of Australian rowing, with significant contributions at both club and state levels.

He began his rowing career at Aquinas College in Perth and continued to row at the University of Western Australia Boat Club (UWABC) during his undergraduate years. Craig studied law and practiced as a lawyer while simultaneously contributing to the rowing community.

Craig's administrative career in rowing has been extensive. He has held numerous roles at UWABC and Rowing WA, including serving as a WA Councillor at Rowing Australia. His commitment to the sport is evident through his participation in various committees and boards, as well as his life memberships at both UWABC and Rowing WA.

An accomplished umpire, Craig obtained his local umpiring licence in 1978, a national licence in 1982, and an international licence in 1996. He has officiated at nearly all National Championships from the early 1980s to 2006, as well as at World Cups, World Championships, and the 2008 Olympic Games. Craig also co-authored the revised Rules of Racing in Australia to align with FISA's rules.

Craig's dedication to rowing has earned him numerous accolades, including life memberships at UWABC and Rowing WA, the WA Sports Federation Award of Merit, and the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for his services to rowing.
