Ella Bramwell
SA | Adelaide Rowing Club
Ella “El” Bramwell is a stroke-side sweep rower from Adelaide, South Australia, currently in her second year as a National Training Centre (NTC) scholar. A member of Adelaide Rowing Club and a former Pembroke School student, Ella brings a combination of power, personality, and positivity to the Australian Women’s Sweep Squad.
Ella first discovered rowing through the SASI Talent Search Programme. Coached early on by Ron Mobbs and Christine MacLaren, she transitioned from a multi-sport junior (including athletics, touch rugby, and water polo) into a rising force on the national rowing circuit.
She’s claimed multiple national titles across age categories, including the U19 Women’s Eight in 2017, U23 Women’s Eight in 2021, and most recently, Gold in the Open Women’s Coxless Four at the 2025 Australian Rowing Championships. Her standout international racing memories include representing Leander Club at the Henley Royal Regatta and the Ghent Regatta, as well as racing at the Windermere Cup and back-to-back appearances at the Head of the Shanghai River Regatta.
Off the water, Ella is completing her Master’s degree in Wine Business at the University of Adelaide. Before joining the NTC, she worked as a disability support worker, being mentored by a Paralympian and world champion, and helped facilitate para surfing sessions, experiences that shaped her perspective and leadership within and beyond sport.
Known for her signature humour and sparkle (bedazzling is a genuine hobby), Ella keeps her mindset sharp with advice like “think less” and technical cues such as “you’d go faster if you put your blade in the water.”
Ella’s 2025 goal may be modestly unstated, but her drive to keep building on her domestic and international experience is clear. Whether racing overseas or soaking up coffee-fuelled banter at training, she’s a key presence in Australia’s women’s sweep ranks.
Ella is currently a member of the Australian Women's Pair Squad and Women's Eight.
