James Bruce Tomkins OAM OLY, born on August 19, 1965, is one of Australia's most decorated rowers, with an illustrious career spanning six Olympic Games.
As a three-time Olympic gold medalist and a seven-time World Champion, Tomkins has made an indelible mark on the sport. He was a key member of the "Oarsome Foursome," winning Olympic gold in the coxless four at the 1992 and 1996 Games and later adding another gold in the coxless pair at the 2004 Olympics.
His versatility and skill are evidenced by his World Championship titles in all five sweep rowing events. Tomkins' contributions to rowing extend beyond his athletic achievements; he was the Australian flag bearer at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and has been inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame and the Rowing Victoria Hall of Fame.
Awarded the prestigious Thomas Keller Medal in 2010, he is celebrated for his exemplary sportsmanship and outstanding international rowing career.
