Kath Bennett

Kath Bennett is a pioneering figure in the revival and growth of women's rowing in Victoria, Australia. Starting her rowing career in 1965 with the YWCA Rowing Club, she quickly made her mark, competing in the National Women's Championships in 1966.

Kath's contributions extend beyond her athletic achievements; she played a crucial role in the amalgamation of the men's and women's rowing federations in 1979, a move that greatly benefited women's rowing. She coached the first Australian crew to compete at the Canadian Henley and served as the women's manager for the 1975 World Championships.

As promotions officer for the state women's association, she was instrumental in the expansion of women's rowing clubs in Victoria, growing from just two clubs in 1964 to around 20 by 1975.

Kath's leadership as Captain and President of the YWCA Rowing Club, along with her life memberships with the YWCA and Victorian Rowing Association, highlight her enduring legacy in the sport.
