Marcus Della Marta
NSW | Sydney University Boat Club
Marcus Della Marta is a force in Australian men’s sculling, known for his, athletic versatility, and ambition to restore Australia's reputation in international sculling. A Sydney local and proud member of Sydney University Boat Club, Marcus is entering his second year as a National Training Centre (NTC) scholar and has already built a strong case as one of the country’s leading young talents.
Originally a schoolboy rugby standout in Newington College’s 1st XV and a player with Randwick Rugby, Marcus only returned to rowing in 2020, tipping the scales at 130kg. A simple call from a coach looking to recruit athletes for a fitness comeback sparked a remarkable transformation. Within 18 months, Marcus earned selection for the 2022 World Rowing Under 23 Championships, racing in the Men's Quad.
His rapid rise has been backed up by results: a national title in the Open Men's Quad (2023), another in the Open Men's Double (2024), and a close second in the fiercely contested Open Men's Single Scull that same year. Marcus has also dipped his toes into the coastal scene, placing sixth in the solo at the 2023 World Rowing Beach Sprint Finals and competing in both the solo and mixed double formats.
In 2024, Marcus raced the Men’s Double Scull at the Final Olympic Qualification Regatta in Lucerne, where he and his partner finished just shy of qualification in third place, before going on to win the B-Final at World Rowing Cup III. These international experiences have only sharpened his focus on consistency and podium performances.
Off the water, Marcus holds a degree from UNSW in Arts, International Business, and Media. He remains deeply engaged with the sport and committed to his craft. A product of coaching under Alex Field, Marcus brings a rugby mentality to the boat—hungry, competitive, and always looking to make the fastest crew.
His ultimate 2025 goal? Earn international respect for Australian sculling and help lead a new era of speed, strength, and pride in the green and gold.
