Marcus “Derm” Emmett is a versatile sweep rower from Melbourne, Victoria, known as much for his technical proficiency on both sides of the boat as for his sharp sense of humour and unrelenting work ethic. A proud product of Scotch College, Marcus was immersed early in Australia’s competitive schoolboy rowing circuit, winning the Head of the River three times and claiming Australian national titles in the Schoolboy Eight in both 2017 and 2019. That same year, he also served as Captain of Boats and steered his crew to the final of the Princess Elizabeth Challenge Cup at Henley Royal Regatta, after winning the prestigious event in 2017.
Marcus’ commitment to rowing earned him a place at Yale University, where he currently studies a Bachelor of Arts in Global Affairs while rowing in the university’s renowned Varsity Eight. At Yale, Marcus has been a consistent contributor to the 1V, earning First Team All-Ivy honours twice, selection to the EARC Crew of the Year, and recognition as an IRCA Scholar-Athlete in multiple seasons. Among his collegiate highlights is the 2023 Eastern Sprints victory, which he ranks as one of his most memorable sporting moments.
Internationally, Marcus represented Australia in the U23 Men’s Eight, winning bronze at the 2022 World Rowing U23 Championships in Varese and placing fourth in 2023. He also competed in the Men’s Eight at World Rowing Cup III in Lucerne, further cementing his presence in the elite international rowing scene.
Beyond the boat park, Marcus balances full-time study with his role as an Investment Analyst at Kline Hill Partners LP. His decision to pursue rowing over Australian Football—where he was team MVP and a representative player—was driven by a desire to combine high-performance sport with a world-class education.
Marcus’ goals for 2025 are clear: compete at the highest level, lay down bombs, and have fun doing it. Whether it’s dissecting race footage, debating Collingwood’s premiership chances, or learning Bahasa Indonesia, Marcus brings passion and purpose to everything he does.
