Nicholas Blackman

Nicholas “Blacky” Blackman is a sculler from Adelaide, South Australia, proudly representing the Adelaide University Boat Club (AUBC) and South Australia on the national stage. A former student of Pembroke School and current Mechanical Engineering student at the University of Adelaide, Blacky is steadily building an impressive career in the boat.

A rising star in Australian sculling, Blacky is a first-year NTC Scholarship holder and has already delivered strong international performances, claiming Bronze in the Quad at the 2023 World Rowing Under 23 Championships and Silver in the Double in 2024. His goals for 2025 include standing on the podium at the World Cups in Varese and Lucerne, and securing an A-Final finish at the 2025 World Rowing Championships in Shanghai.

Domestically, Blacky is a multiple ARC champion, having won the U23 Single and U23 Double Sculls at #ARC24 and the Open Quad Scull at #ARC23. His proudest moments to date include winning Silver at the U23 Worlds and taking the national title in the U23 Single at the 2024 Australian Rowing Championships.

Coached first by Simon Lane and inspired by his uncle’s rowing legacy at Pembroke, Nicholas transitioned from junior AFL to rowing, driven by a dream of competing at the Olympic Games. Off the water, he’s passionate about cars and motorsport.

Blacky is currently a member of the Australian Men's Quad Sculls.
