RA is the national governing body for the sport and is responsible for the leadership, administration, and governance of the sport nationally. RA delivers the high-performance program and is responsible for the performance of the Australian Rowing Team, who are high performing on the global stage including Olympic, Paralympic, and Commonwealth Games.

About the role

The Wellbeing & Engagement Lead will play a vital role in Rowing Australia’s High-Performance strategy. You will be responsible for supporting athletes as they navigate the high-performance environment, empowering them to find balance between wellbeing, personal and professional development.

Rowing Australia is committed to Winning Well. Working closely with the W&E Manager your duties will include;

  • Lead and implement RA’s Wellbeing Strategy, ensuring alignment with the High-Performance Strategy to enhance both performance and athlete experience.
  • Support athletes through group education and individual consultations on wellbeing-related matters.
  • Provide tailored, proactive support to athletes during high-risk periods (injury, non-selection, post-benchmark events, major transitions, significant life events).
  • Implement and review policies and procedures aligned with the AW&E Framework to support the holistic development, safety, and protection of athletes.
  • Collaborate with coaches and support staff to align wellbeing initiatives with performance outcomes.
  • Cultivate relationships with internal and external networks, ensuring athletes have access to appropriate support services and resources.
  • Maintain contemporary knowledge of wellbeing, mental health, and social issues impacting high-performance athletes.

About you

Rowing Australia is seeking a compassionate and professional leader who can foster trust and deliver impactful wellbeing initiatives within the high-performance environment. You will bring:

  • Tertiary qualifications and/ or relevant experience (e.g., education, psychology, social work, counselling).
  • Knowledge of emerging issues for athletes and an ability to provide proactive programs to address these issues.
  • Case management and athlete support, including triage and referral.
  • A genuine passion for empowering individuals to thrive and develop.
  • Current understanding of issues impacting mental health and wellbeing.

Are you passionate about sports media, storytelling and based in Tasmania? Do you want to gain hands-on experience at Australia's premier rowing event? Rowing Australia is offering an exciting opportunity for an aspiring communications professional to join us as a Communications Intern at the 2025 Australian Rowing Championships at Lake Barrington.
 
About the Role
As a Communications Intern, you'll be at the heart of the action, supporting Rowing Australia's day-to-day communications operations. You'll have the opportunity to develop your skills by working across various platforms and media initiatives.
This is a fast-paced role designed to immerse you in the exciting world of elite sports communications.
 
Ideal Candidate
  • Currently studying a degree in Communications, Media, Journalism, or Marketing (or equivalent).
  • Passionate about sport and storytelling, with a keen interest in rowing (or willingness to learn).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with social media platforms and content creation (including video and photography skills).
  • Ability to thrive under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a dynamic event environment.
