Pacific Rowers Participate in Coastal Rowing Camp Ahead of Beach Sprints Championships

Forty-eight athletes and coaches from across the Pacific have gathered in the Gold Coast for a Coastal Rowing training camp in the lead up to the 2026 Australian & Oceania Beach Sprint Rowing Championships, a key step in the region’s pathway to Coastal Rowing’s Olympic debut at LA 2028.

The camp, delivered by World Rowing, the Oceania Rowing Confederation and Rowing Australia, with support from the Australian Government, through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s PacificAus Sports program has given athletes expert coaching and guidance on the coastal rowing format. 

From 31 August - 2 September, athletes trained in C1x and C2x coastal boats under the World Rowing coaching team and Rowing Australia coaches. The delivered activities also included a Coach the Coach program (Coastal Race Module), a Beach Sprint Technical Delegates training for event organisers, water safety training, PR3 Para-Rowing identification pathway, Integrity education by Sport Integrity Australia, and the Warrior of the Sea cultural program celebrating shared Pacific seafaring heritage. The camp culminates in the 2026 Australian and Oceania Beach Sprint Rowing Championships from 3 - 6 September, giving athletes the opportunity to gain valuable international experience as they work towards their Olympic dream.
