Rowing in Australia ‘Row Well Plan’ Launched

Rowing Australia, in collaboration with the seven State and Territory Member Associations, has launched the Row Well Plan, designed to support the continued growth, sustainability, and future success of our sport.

Aligned with Rowing Australia’s Strategic Plan and the Australian Sports Commission's Play Well Strategy, the Row Well Plan is a roadmap to help Rowing in Australia (RiA) to deliver on the sport’s strategic objectives.

The Row Well Plan sets out clear objectives for Rowing Australia to deliver in line with four pillars of the RiA Strategic Plan: Participation & Growth, People & Culture, Commercial and Governance.

Rowing Australia CEO Sarah Cook said the plan sets a clear course for the future of Rowing in Australia.

“The Row Well Plan represents Rowing Australia’s commitment in collaboration with our State and Territory Associations to the future success of our sport, from operational deliverables and initiatives through to desired outcomes.

“We are committed to driving greater participation and retention in rowing, making the sport more accessible, and to build a framework that will empower and support our clubs, schools and communities to make this happen.”

A key focus of the Row Well Plan is expanding participation across all pathways, including growth in Beach Sprints and Indoor Rowing, an expanded Sporting Schools program, and enhanced opportunities for women and Para rowers nationally.

"By growing exciting formats like Beach Sprints and Indoor Rowing, expanding our reach into schools, and creating stronger pathways for women and Para rowers, we're building a sport that welcomes every Australian who wants to get involved.”

Rowing South Australia CEO Andrew Swift expressed support of the Row Well Plan in providing a clear framework for delivering new initiatives.

"Indoor rowing is an exciting space for us, and one we've been progressing in recently. We look forward to further growing this side of the sport in South Australia, and the Row Well Plan gives us a clear framework to do that alongside Rowing Australia and our fellow Member Associations, thanks to the Play Well strategy."

Rowing in Australia is currently enjoyed by over 60,000 participants and 30,000 competitive members, from young rowers at school through to universities and clubs, right through to masters rowing. Member Associations operate across seven states, with more than 185 schools and 156 clubs offering rowing programs throughout the majority of the Australian community.

The Row Well Plan is a 12-month rolling operational plan, and together with the seven State and Territory Member Associations, Rowing Australia will review the plan biannually.

As part of Rowing Australia's ongoing commitment to its Strategic Plan and the Australian Sports Commission’s Play Well Strategy, the Row Well Plan will be pivotal to extending rowing's reach, fostering community connection, and ensuring the future success of the sport.
