Charlie Batrouney

VIC | Melbourne University Boat Club

Charlie Batrouney, known to teammates as "Bat", is a first-year NTC Scholar stroke-side sweep rower from Geelong, Victoria. A product of The Geelong College and a graduate of Deakin University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Charlie is affiliated with Melbourne University Boat Club.

Charlie made his mark on the international stage racing in the Under 23 Men’s Four at the 2022 World Rowing Under 23 Championships and again at World Cup III. He returned to Europe in 2024 for World Cup I, setting his sights on the 2025 European tour and World Rowing Championships.

A dual Australian Rowing Champion in the Open Men’s Eight (2022, 2023), Charlie’s standout moment came with his selection to the U23 national team—a pivotal milestone that fuelled his ambition to rise to the senior ranks.

Outside the boat, Charlie embraces farm life and the outdoors. He works casually as a tutor and engineering researcher, bringing the same discipline to his work as he does to rowing. Originally a talented water polo player, Charlie made the switch back to rowing in 2020, inspired by his sister and the clearer pathway to national representation.

His first coach was Matt Ryan, and he continues to build on those foundations with each stroke he takes in the green and gold. Charlie is currently a part of the Australian Rowing Team Sweep squad as a reserve.
