Hayley Verbunt

VIC | Mercantile Rowing Club

Hayley Verbunt hails from Brighton, VIC. Currently training as a coxswain in the Women's Coxed Eight under the guidance of coach John Keogh, Hayley is also pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Melbourne. Her rowing career commenced at the age of 14, with her initial coaching team including John Novak, Alistair Isherwood, and Sarah Ben-David.

Transitioning from competitive hockey, which she played since age 11, Hayley brought her strong teamwork and quick decision-making skills to rowing.

Hayley's rowing achievements are impressive, highlighted by a bronze medal at the 2023 World Rowing Championships in the Women's Coxed Eight category, which also secured Olympic qualification for Paris 2024.

Hayley describes the races at the 2023 World Championships as her most memorable sporting moments, where she witnessed the culmination of the season's efforts in a series of incredible performances.

Off the water, Hayley enjoys running, baking, swimming, and hiking. Inspired daily by her mother and the athletes at the Women's National Training Centre, she strives to be the best version of herself.

On race days, Hayley is meticulously prepared, ensuring her crew is ready, equipment is set, and the race plan is solid, all while keeping her team motivated with tunes and effective communication.
