Patrick “Longy” Long is a powerful stroke-side sweep rower from Brisbane, Queensland, known for his calm leadership, technical precision, and big-race pedigree. A product of St Joseph’s Nudgee College, Patrick first turned heads as a back-to-back national champion in the Under 17 Men’s Single Scull and a key member of Nudgee’s Head of the River-winning crews in 2017 and 2019. He also captained the erg leaderboard and was crowned the school’s Best Oarsman for three straight years.
Patrick’s blend of athleticism and discipline earned him a place at Princeton University, where he became a cornerstone of one of the NCAA’s top rowing programs. During his time with the Tigers, he helped deliver undefeated regular seasons, multiple Eastern Sprints silver medals, and a Bronze medal at the 2023 IRA National Championships. In 2024, Patrick added a coveted Henley Royal Regatta title, winning the Ladies' Plate with Princeton’s First Varsity Eight.
Internationally, Patrick represented Australia in the Under 23 Men’s Eight, winning Bronze in 2022 and finishing fourth in 2023, showcasing his strength in the world’s fastest junior crews. He also competed in the Men’s Eight at World Rowing Cup III in Lucerne in 2022.
With roots in both KAND Rowing Club and his alma mater, Patrick now sets his sights on World Cup podiums and a debut at the Senior World Championships in Shanghai. Off the water, he finds joy fixing and riding bikes, bringing the same attention to detail and mechanical focus that makes him such a reliable athlete in the stroke seat.
Patrick's favourite sporting moment remains his first run-on for Nudgee’s 1st XV Rugby side, but it’s clear that rowing has taken centre stage, and he’s not done yet.
