Adam Holland and Olivia Yeates are the 2025 recipients of the Flavia Gobbo OAM Bursary, an initiative designed to support Australia’s most promising underage athletes as they balance the demands of training, study and work in pursuit of international success.
Now in its second year, the bursary was established in 2024 by Flavia and James MacKenzie and honours the extraordinary contribution of Flavia Gobbo OAM to Australian rowing. Each year, the bursary awards two $5000 grants, one to a male and one to a female athlete, who demonstrate outstanding commitment and potential.
Adam (SA / Adelaide Rowing Club) and Olivia (TAS / Tasmania University Boat Club) are both members of the 2025 Under 23 Australian Rowing Team.
Adam is currently training with the Men’s Quad in Sydney while juggling university studies and coaching commitments. Olivia, hailing from Latrobe, Tasmania, continues to train with the U23 Women’s Quad as she pursues her dream of representing Australia at the Olympic Games.
The impact of the bursary was clearly demonstrated in its inaugural year: 2024 recipients Austin Reinehr and Isabella Scammell both claimed Silver medals at the 2024 World Rowing Under 23 Championships in the Men’s and Women’s Fours, respectively.
Austin has since progressed to the Senior Men’s Four, which recently won back-to-back Golds at the World Rowing Cups, while Isabella is currently a key member of the U23 Women’s Pair.
This bursary is another step forward in Rowing Australia's long-term commitment to athlete development, helping to nurture the next wave of talent on the road to LA 2028 and Brisbane 2032.
